Lochlann Murray: Tributes paid to Co Armagh teenager who died after falling from cliff

Lochlann Murray, from the Crossmaglen area, is believed to have fallen onto rocks just above the coast on Friday.

The 17-year-old’s body was recovered in the area on Sunday by members of Rockcorry Divers and the North Coast Search and Recovery Team on Sunday afternoon.

“The area below could not be seen from the top of the cliffs, but information was relayed by a drone,” a RDNCSR spokesperson said.

“The bad weather conditions of the last few days, together with the swell and large rocks, made recovery very difficult.

“Falling debris from the cliff face was another hazard the dive team needed to be aware of.

“The divers landed at the base of the cliffs at around 2:30 p.m. and by 3:30 p.m. the body was located.

“The dive team successfully recovered the remains on their support vessel. The body was taken back to the Coastguard station in Doolin.”

The RDNCSR offered its condolences to Lochlann’s family.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the deceased at this very sad time.”

Sinn Féin councillor Aoife Finnegan offered her sympathy to Lochlann’s loved ones: “Sincere condolences to his family and friends. Sending our deepest love and support. Rest in peace, Lochlann.”

Lochlan and his family were heavily involved in the local boxing club and have also paid tribute to him online.

“All of us at Silverbridge Boxing Club send our sincere condolences to Lochlann’s family. Lochlann was a former boxer at our club and his father Kieran was a coach. Lochlann is the nephew of our coach Miceal and the Murray and Martin families have always been great supporters of our club. Go Raibh Suaimhneas Síoraí Air.”

Lochlann’s funeral will be held at St Brigid’s Church, Glassdrummond, at 11am on Thursday, with burial later at Creggan Cemetery.

His body will leave the family home on Lurgan Road at 10.30am ahead of the funeral.

A funeral notice for Lochlann describes him as the beloved son of Jodi and Kieran, and devoted brother of Hannah and the cherished grandson of Lochlann and Maeve Murray and Jean and the late Bill Viau.

He added: “Dearest nephew of Aislinn, Aoife, Clare, Miceal, Niall, Micheál, Bob and Sherri. Cousin of Emma, Mickey Pat, Ellie Ann, Ruby, Meabh, Gabe and Delaney.”
