PSG have already made the first move to sign the “exceptional” striker that Newcastle United want

Newcastle United suddenly face competition from Paris Saint-Germain for one of their attacking targets.

The Magpies are targeting a right-winger signing this summer, and can now turn their attention to new arrivals after a stressful end to June. The sales of Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson appear to have ensured the club have delivered on both profit and sustainability, with Newcastle netting £68m in total.

While there are more departures to be made, Newcastle have completed their vital sales. It means they can now relax a little before strengthening a squad that will want to challenge for a Champions League spot next season.

The most important signing Newcastle will make this summer will be a right winger. Eddie Howe needs a striker who can help take his team to the next level, and some interesting options have been linked. Unfortunately, Michael Olise is heading elsewhere, and a deal for Nico Williams looks incredibly unlikely.

PSG to challenge Newcastle for Crysencio Summerville

The “exceptional” Dutchman is on the Magpies’ radar after a sensational season in the Championship and would certainly complement Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak in attack at St James’ Park.

However, Newcastle are not the only club interested in Summerville.

According to Dutch website De Telegraaf, Paris Saint-Germain are keeping tabs on Summerville.

They report that PSG have initiated contact with Leeds over a deal as they look to negotiate a deal for the player who won the Championship Player of the Season award.

That is a problem for Newcastle as PSG look to bolster an attack that will be without Kylian Mbappe next season. He left the Ligue 1 giants to sign for Real Madrid after his contract expired.

While Summerville is not at Mbappe’s level, it is testament to his ability that PSG are considering him as a signing following the Frenchman’s departure.

Leeds United have just received a huge financial boost

With PSG now in the running, Newcastle could suddenly find themselves in trouble in the race to sign Summerville from Leeds.

Furthermore, there may be less pressure on Leeds to sell. They needed to raise cash this summer after their failure to secure promotion, and they did just that this week.

Leeds have sold Archie Gray to Tottenham Hotspur, with the 18-year-old costing around £30m. Whether or not that influences their ability to keep Summerville remains to be seen, but he is now a player who is attracting interest from PSG – as well as Newcastle.
