Tottenham’s path opens up for top signing as Manchester City drop out of the race

According to information from The AthleticTottenham Hotspur are in the best position to sign Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace, with Manchester City reportedly pulling out of the race.

Previous reports suggested Spurs would be pursuing Eberechi Eze, a 26-year-old left winger who plays for London rivals Crystal Palace. However, the move appeared to be complicated by interest from Manchester City.

The reigning Premier League champions are reportedly interested in activating the player’s release clause, which is set at around £60 million. The existence of this clause was confirmed by The Athletic.

However, according to the same source, Manchester City no longer intends to pay that amount for Eze, which would leave a “clear path” for Tottenham in the race for the versatile English winger.

Other attacking players who have been linked with Tottenham include Rennes’ Désiré Doué, LOSC Lille’s Jonathan David, RB Leipzig’s Lois Openda and most recently Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Pedro Neto.

Eberechi Eze has scored 11 goals and provided 4 assists in 27 appearances during the 2023-2024 season for Crystal Palace in the Premier League. This means that the 26-year-old winger has proven himself in the context in which he would need to shine for Spurs, there is no doubt about that.

We’ll have to wait to find out for sure how much Tottenham intend to spend this significant amount of money on a single player, especially considering the various targets Ange Postecoglou’s side have for the rest of the transfer window.
