Rutland Water was recently named a Blue Flag award-winning beach for 2024. This is great news for Brummies who don’t have access to the sea as it’s only 90 minutes from Birmingham.

It is the first inland bathing water site in England to be awarded the Blue Flag and Seaside Award. These awards recognise excellent water quality, biodiversity and green spaces for the community.

The marina offers a glorious sandy beach, a lake for swimming and paddling, and a café for ice cream and snacks, where you can enjoy panoramic views of the lake. You can even have a barbecue and cook your own food.

With over 140 metres of golden sand for family fun, you can build sandcastles, sunbathe and play beach games and still be home in time for tea. And the great news is that it’s free, you just have to pay for parking.

There’s also an adventure playground, a nature reserve, lovely walks and bike rides, plus grassy areas for picnics and generally relaxing and soaking up the summer vibes. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can book to use the on-site water park, laser tag adventure and mini golf too.

The water park boasts a 10-metre-long inflatable Sea Dragon, which is the same length as the real ichthyosaur fossil found in Rutland Water in 2021. There’s also a 3.5-metre slide and blow-up bag, along with monkey bars and a diving tower. Find out more and book via the Aqua Park Group website.
