The Killers pause show so fans can watch England win Euro semi-final

The rockers immediately began singing “Mr. Brightside” after the epic win.

The Killers soundtracked England’s Euro 2024 semi-final win over the Netherlands with “Mr. Brightside”.

On Wednesday, while performing at London’s O2 Arena, the band paused their set to show the final moments of England’s 2-1 triumph on the big screen (allowing the team to advance to play Spain in Sunday’s final). As soon as the final whistle blew, red and white confetti was thrown into the sky and the Killers immediately celebrated the occasion by launching into “Mr. Brightside” — the 2000s hit track has had the longest run on the UK singles chart, clocking up 408 weeks, and is also the UK’s third biggest-selling song of all time.

In a social media post, the group posted a series of photos capturing the event along with the caption: “Tonight we play for England.”

In June, the Killers showed their appreciation for two of Manchester’s most beloved artists by playing a version of New Order’s “True Faith” and a cover of the Stone Roses’ “Ten Storey Love Song.” During their UK tour, the band covered various musicians’ songs such as the Kinks’ “Come Dancing” and previewed U2’s “The Sweetest Thing” during their stops in Dublin.
