Hint for the future as Mapperley’s Del Boy artwork is removed and former restaurant is cleaned up

The popular Del Boy artwork at Mapperley Top has been removed and the building has been cleaned. The face of the much-loved Only Fools and Horses character first appeared on the boarded-up Mange Tout restaurant on Woodborough Road in December.

The design – featuring Del in a Santa hat – seemed like a play on his famous French malapropism catchphrase. “Mange Tout, Rodney…” But the building’s owner was later notified to give the vacant restaurant a makeover.

Officials at Gedling Town Council said the vacant property had been left in a “very poor condition”. It appears that action has since been taken, with the artwork – which appeared on a wooden plaque – removed from the front of the building.

The exterior of the property has received some much needed TLC and care, and the building is in noticeably better condition than in previous months.

Photos also appear to show some work being done inside, perhaps hinting that it will be put to a new use in the future. Though any future plans remain unclear at this time.

The Mange Tout restaurant has been closed for several years.
