The Twelfth 2024: Everything you need to know about the parades in Northern Ireland

Belfast’s main July 12th parade route will continue with its usual 10-mile walk this year.

This year’s march will leave from Belfast’s Orange Hall in Carlisle Circus from 10am.

A wreath-laying ceremony will take place at the Cenotaph in the grounds of the Town Hall shortly before 10.30am and the procession will then proceed via Donegall Square West, Bedford Street, Dublin Road, Shaftsbury Square, Bradbury Place, Lisburn Road, Balmoral Avenue and Malone Road to the field at Barnett’s Demesne.

The return parade is expected to leave the field and head towards the city center at 3:30 p.m.

Killylea, County Armagh

Billed as the world’s largest Orange gathering on the day, there are expected to be around 40,000 spectators at the Co Armagh rally in Killylea.

Eleven District Lodges, 150 private lodges and nearly 5,000 brothers will be on parade. Nearly 70 bands will accompany the lodges.

The main parade will begin at approximately 10:15 am.

Ballymena, County Antrim

Ballymena is the only town in Northern Ireland that holds a Twelfth Day demonstration every year.

Twenty-seven stores and 15 bands will participate in the celebrations.

The parade will leave the field at 12:30 p.m., proceed to the demonstration field and should end around 2:30 p.m. The return parade will leave the field at 4:30 p.m.

Carrickfergus, County Antrim

The parade in Carrickfergus will include 60 lodges and around 40 bands with several Lambeg drummers, who will accompany up to 2,000 GOLI members.

Prior to the main parade, the host district and bands will leave the King William III Memorial Orange Hall at 10am for the assembly point prior to the start of the march at 11am.

The main parade will be led by Whitehead Temperance LOL 968.

The parade will leave the field at 4pm.

Cloughmills, County Antrim

Forty-three stores will parade in Cloughmills, accompanied by 29 bands.

The main parade will start at 1pm, making its way from the assembly ground on Drumadoon Road, along Main Street to the demonstration ground on Ballycreagh Road.

The parade will be led by Duneaney LOL 1025, accompanied by the Duneaney Accordion Band.

The return parade will begin at 4pm.

Ahoghill, County Antrim

Sixteen stores will participate in the Ahoghill parade, along with nine bands.

The main parade will depart at 12.30pm from Killane Road to the demonstration ground at Ahoghill Community Centre.

The Lambeg Drumming Tattoo will follow the platform and involve all the lambeg drums and fifes that were in the parade.

The return parade will begin at 3:50 p.m.

Broughshane, County Antrim

Braid Twelfth of July will be held in Broughshane for the second year running and will be hosted by Buckna LOL 489.

The parade, which will feature two lambeg drum sets and nine bands, will begin at 12pm. Speakers on the day will include Bro Tom Elliott UUP MLA.

The parade will return at 4pm.

Gilford, County Down

The village of Gilford will host one of the largest gatherings on July 12th.

Around 10,000 people are expected to turn up on the day to watch more than 60 acts from shops and bands across South West Down.

Leading the parade will be Gilford District LOL No 13, accompanied by the band Blackskull Orange and Blue Flute.

The parade will start at 12pm and return at 4pm.

Newtownards, County Down

More than 40 shops and 30 bands will parade through Newtownards, with a selection of flute, accordion and bagpipe bands taking part.

The main parade will start at 1pm and will feature over 30 bands and 1,000 Orange men and women.

The return parade will begin at 4:30 p.m.

Ballynahinch, County Down

More than 1,000 brothers from 60 lodges are expected to take part in the Ballynahinch Twelfth Day parade, accompanied by around 40 bands.

The main parade will leave Belfast Road at 12pm and will pause briefly at the arch to cover the road with water from the River Boyne.

The return parade will leave the demonstration grounds at 4:00 p.m.

Annalong, County Down

The coastal village of Annalong in Co Down will host the 12th demonstration for the first time since 2017.

As is tradition, Kilkeel lodges will cover the five-mile route to Annalong.

They will meet up with their comrades on Grove Road, before the district parades through Annalong to the demonstration ground.

The district will begin its parade return at 3:30 p.m.

Kilkeel lodges and country lodges will return to the town where they will parade before finishing at the Orange Hall.

Irvinestown, County Fermanagh

In addition to the local shops in the district, Irvinestown will also welcome visiting shops from the Republic of Ireland, representing Donegal, Leitrim, Cavan and Monaghan and their bands.

Tempo District LOL No 16, accompanied by the Tempo Silver Band, will lead the parade which begins at 12pm.

The return parade will begin at 3:00 PM and end at approximately 4:30 PM.

Londonderry

The City of Londonderry Grand Orange Lodge will accommodate eight districts comprising 57 private lodges and 36 bands.

The main parade will depart from Glendermott Road at 11.30am.

Representatives from the Grand Orange Lodge of Scotland, the Ladies’ Association of Scotland, the Grand Orange Lodge of Canada and the Grand Orange Lodge of Australia will participate.

The return parade will depart Wilton Park at 3:45 p.m.

Moneymore, County Londonderry

Almost 50 bands and stores are expected to take part in the Moneymore parade.

All District Lodges will assemble on Desertmartin Road from 10:30am in a field opposite the junction with Tulnagee Road and will move to the demonstration field on Moneyhaw Road.

Benburb, County Tyrone

Seven districts in the Mid Ulster/South Tyrone area will parade with 65 lodges and approximately 45 bands.

The main parade will begin at 12:30pm, leaving the concentration camp on Drumgoose Road.

The return parade will begin at approximately 3:35 p.m.

Newtownstewart, County Tyrone

A total of 58 stores and around 40 backing bands will take part in the Newtownstewart parade.

The main parade will start at 12:30 pm and the return at 4 pm.

Omagh District LOL 850 will celebrate its 200th anniversary, while Omagh District Junior Boys Lodge and Castlederg ‘Sisters of Elizabeth’ Junior Girls Lodge will be on parade for their first ever twelfth anniversary.

Ballygawley, County Tyrone

The Clogher Valley rally will be organised this year by Annahoe District LOL No 6.

Twenty-two stores and bands from the Fivemiletown and Annahoe districts will begin the parade at 12:30 p.m.

There will be representation from the Brethren of County Monaghan, particularly the Truagh District, with several WLOL women parading.

Derriaghy, County Antrim

The South Antrim Combine’s twelfth anniversary celebrations will be hosted by Derriaghy District LOL No 11 in Derriaghy and Dunmurry.

More than 2,000 Orangemen and Orangewomen, accompanied by around 20 bands, will participate.

The main parade will start at 11:30 am and the return parade will start at 4:00 pm.
