Road closures announced in Edinburgh ahead of summer festival season

Several road closures have been announced ahead of a summer of festivals.

Edinburgh City Council has announced temporary changes to the way some streets in the Old Town operate.

This is because hundreds of thousands of visitors are expected in the city for the Fringe Festival, the Tattoo and the Film Festival.

The council reminded residents that Edinburgh’s population doubles during the summer and to make the streets of the Old Town safer, some roads will be closed to traffic at certain times.

Council leader Cammy Day said: “While we are proud to welcome artists and visitors from around the world to our summer festivals, we need to ensure this influx is managed safely and appropriately. We have successfully implemented temporary changes to the streets of the Old Town during this period for a number of years and I am confident this summer will be no different.

“I would like to thank our residents and businesses for their understanding as we prepare to showcase Edinburgh as the cultural capital of the world once again.”
