Erol Bulut says Cardiff City are close to three signings as he gives an update on Derby County’s pursuit of Ebou Adams

Cardiff City manager Erol Bulut has confirmed the club are close to signing free agent Chris Willock this summer and are hoping to add more new faces to their squad in the coming days.

Bulut watched his side kick off pre-season with a 1-0 defeat at home to Kidderminster Harriers on Wednesday night and once again stressed the importance of strengthening their attacking options ahead of the new campaign.

“Last season we talked about it a lot,” Bulut said. “Our problem is that we missed a lot of chances. If it had been a little bit different last season, our position would have been a little bit different as well.

“We had a good season last season. This season we want to add more. We will try to add players to increase our level.

“We are negotiating, we are almost done negotiating with some players. I think it will take a day or two to bring some players.

“We are close to three players and I hope we can finalise that in the next few days.”

Former Queens Park Rangers winger Willock is likely to be the first deal of its kind to be agreed. Indeed, it is understood the move could well be confirmed as early as today, in what would be a significant transfer breakthrough for the Bluebirds.

As the City boss explained, he is a target who has been on City’s radar for some time.

“We’ve been interested in him since last January,” Bulut added. “We’ve had some conversations, we’ve tried to bring in some players – one of them being Willock.

“I think he has the skills that maybe our wingers didn’t have last season. One-on-one situations and getting straight to goal to score goals.

“I think with Willock we will have more attack, we will create more chances and score goals, hopefully. Last season at QPR he scored four goals and gave four assists.

“If you look at what he has done at QPR over the last three or four seasons, he has done very well.

“He is 26, a very good age, where you can expect a lot more things and we expect more than what he showed last season.”

Meanwhile, Bulut says there has been an offer from Derby County for Ebou Adams, who sat out the defeat to the amateur side.

“As far as I know, we had an offer from Derby County but nothing was finalised, so until that moment Ebou Adams is still a Cardiff City player,” Bulut said.

“We didn’t want to risk him (against Kidderminster) because we are close (to a deal) but in football you never know. Things can not be done and today we don’t use him but tomorrow is another day, we never know.”
