Cardiff City transfer news tonight as European duo linked and ‘talks ongoing’ for midfielder

Here are the Cardiff City headlines for Tuesday 2nd July.

Icelandic duo linked up

Two Iceland internationals have been linked with Cardiff City.

Icelandic journalist Orri Rafn Sigurdarson reports that the Bluebirds are monitoring Logi Tomasson and Valgeir Lunddal.

Cardiff’s sister club KV Kortrijk are believed to be interested in Tomasson, 23, a left-back who plays in the Norwegian top flight for Strømsgodset.

Jostein Flo, Strømsgodset’s head of football, said recently: “Logi is still in our plans. He has played well and it is natural that other clubs are watching him, but we do not need to sell him.”

“Logi fits our style of play and what we are trying to create at the club, so I hope we can build on that. I also believe he can make even bigger steps at Strømsgodset.”

The news comes after Strømsgodset reportedly turned down a £569,000 offer for the player.

Meanwhile, Lunddal, 22, is a right-back for Swedish side Häcken. Sources at Cardiff have played down both players’ links to WalesOnline in the past 24 hours.

Negotiations underway for Adams

The Telegraph reports that talks are continuing between Cardiff and Derby County over a deal for Ebou Adams.

The Bluebirds midfielder spent the second half of last season on loan at Pride Park, helping the Rams return to the Championship from League One.

The East Midlands outfit have made no secret of the fact that they would like to link up with the Gambia international permanently.

Derby owner David Clowes made his stance known earlier this week, with the club now set to step up their signings, with Swansea City striker Jerry Yates also signing on loan.

The Telegraph’s John Percy wrote on X: “#dcfc set to complete signings of strikers Jerry Yates and Kayden Jackson in next 24-48 hours. Yates will sign on loan from Swansea and Jackson joins them on a two-year deal after leaving Ipswich. Talks ongoing with Cardiff over potential deal for Ebou Adams.”

New manager Riza: Cardiff have good young prospects

New Cardiff manager Omer Riza believes Cardiff have some good young talent in the squad and hopes to see them flourish next season.

Cardiff brought a number of youngsters into the first team last season, including Cian Ashford, Raheem Conte, Joel Colwill and Luey Giles, and they are preparing for pre-season this week.

Riza has worked with Leyton Orient, Watford and the England youth teams over the past decade, with his most recent role with the Hornets first team ending earlier this year.

“I’ve worked with young people for the last 10 years. It’s great to see young people developing in Cardiff and coming through. There are some great prospects and talents,” said Riza.

“I’m looking forward to this year and the Cardiff first team and hopefully we can make something happen.”

On how pre-season training was going, Riza added: “We planned well, we prepared well, we talked well, we talked about the way we will approach things with the players to make sure we get the best out of them.

“During pre-season we have to make sure we hit all areas to make sure they are conditioned and tactically aware of what they need to do.

“I hope that this year, with or without possession, we will be a solid team to play.”
