New Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler has left fans baffled after showing off his new haircut, which is completely different to the one he had when he arrived at the club.

The Seagulls announced last month that Hurzeler had agreed a three-year deal to join the club, replacing Roberto de Zerbi as their new manager after a difficult season.

Hurzeler’s appointment made him the youngest manager in Premier League history at the age of 31. Chris Coleman had previously won the title following his appointment as Fulham manager in 2003, aged 32.

The Texas-born coach previously sported a sleek side and back cut with a small quiff during his time at German club St. Pauli, but his new style is almost the opposite.

Speaking to members of the assembled press Tuesday afternoon at his official unveiling, Hurzeler showed off his new cut, which was ridiculed by critics on social media.

Hurzeler once sported a sleek back-and-sides hairstyle while he was a manager in Germany.

The new design sees Hurzeler sporting a faded cut, with his former brown quiff removed and replaced by the hairline now coming down to cover his forehead.

It’s a big move for the English top-flight newcomer, who will kick off Brighton’s season when they travel to Everton on August 17.

Comments quickly emerged on social media, mocking Hurzeler’s latest hairstyle, while fans called for the Brighton boss to revert to his old style.

A post on X responding to Brighton’s online update read: “We need to fix that haircut before the season starts, then look for that barber who thought it was okay to let my friend go out like that, but either way, welcome to the club Fabian.”

Another account similarly added: ‘Fabian Hurzeler before and after joining Brighton. He went from Home Counties nepo baby to Home Counties nepo baby working for VICE.’

Others drew a comparison between Hurzeler’s haircut and Jim Carey when the Hollywood actor starred in a film, adding: ‘What did you take away from that first press conference Fabian Hurzeler gave as Brighton manager? That he looks like Jim Carey in Dumb & Dumber.’

Speaking at his inauguration, Hurzeler was keen to speak about his excitement about starting at AMEX, stating: “I’m really happy to be here.

‘It is a great honour for me to be Brighton’s head coach and I am really looking forward to working with the team on the pitch.

‘Seeing all the faces, achieving great things, and that’s where the work can begin. I really like the DNA and philosophy of the club.’
