In addition to Alexander Isak, Newcastle United now want another key player to sign a new contract

Newcastle United are trying to agree a new contract with Alexander Isak, and he is not the only Toon player who could be offered a new deal soon.

Although there have been rumours that Alexander Isak would leave St James’ Park this summer, the club’s main priority has been to give him an improved contract. They want to give him a pay rise, and the belief is that the 24-year-old could soon be Newcastle United’s highest-paid player.

This will help keep him at St James’ Park as Eddie Howe is keen to keep his best players on Tyneside.

Newcastle now keen to keep Anthony Gordon away from Liverpool

Another such player is Anthony Gordon, who Newcastle surprisingly considered selling to resolve their PSR issue.

It was reported that the 23-year-old was offered to Liverpool, but a deal with the Reds failed to be struck due to Newcastle’s financial demands. However, there have been suggestions that the prospect of a move to Anfield has turned Gordon’s head.

It is worrying to hear this, although it has been reported that Gordon is set to remain a Newcastle United player for the 2024/25 season.

This is more positive, and the situation surrounding the winger will be much better if he signs a new contract with Newcastle.

And according to TalkSPORT journalist Alex Crook, that’s what the Magpies hope Gordon will do.

Crook spoke on TalkSPORT on Tuesday afternoon (12.13pm) about Gordon’s future and provided details on a potential contract extension.

“My latest information is that Newcastle United are interested in Anthony Gordon signing a new contract,” he said.

“I think he has two more years on his contract.”

New deal will allow Newcastle to show Gordon how much they value him

Gordon’s current contract with the Toon expires in 2026. He has two years remaining on the initial deal he signed in January 2023 when he joined from Everton for £40m.

And with speculation that Newcastle want to show him some love when he returns from the Euros following the Liverpool debacle, the best way to do that is to offer him a new contract that outlines exactly how important he is.

It is vital that Newcastle retain Gordon, and any new contract must reflect the fact that he is one of Eddie Howe’s most reliable and influential players. He is up there with the likes of Isak and Bruno Guimaraes, and his contract should suggest that.

In an ideal world, Newcastle could agree a new deal for Gordon as soon as possible, which would immediately put an end to any rumours of a move to Liverpool.
