Comely Bank Edinburgh: Police and bomb squad scrambled after ‘grenade found in garden’

An Edinburgh street has been cordoned off by police and bomb squads after officers received a report that a grenade had been discovered in the garden of a property.

Footage from Comely Bank Road shows the street blocked off with a heavy police presence rushing to the scene. A Boots pharmacy was also cordoned off by officers.




Police are reportedly not allowing pedestrian traffic on the busy road as rush hour approaches, with several Lothian bus services also subject to diversions until the scene is cleared.

Edinburgh Live understands that a grenade was discovered by people digging in a garden on the street.

According to Police Scotland, officers were informed of a possible weapon on Comely Bank Road shortly after 3pm on Tuesday, July 2. Roads are closed and the public have been advised to avoid the area.

The force said: “We were informed of a possible weaponry item on Comely Bank Road in Edinburgh at around 3.15pm on Tuesday, July 2. Road closures are in place as a precaution and we urge people to avoid the area while emergency services work in the area.”
