Edinburgh street closed after ‘potential artillery item’ discovered

An Edinburgh street has been closed after a “possible item of weaponry” was discovered in the garden of a house undergoing renovation.

Comely Bank Road has been closed between Fettes Avenue and East Fettes Avenue.

Emergency services responded to the incident at around 3.15pm this afternoon. Officers are now urging people to stay away from the area.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “We were made aware of a possible item of weaponry on Comely Bank Road in Edinburgh at around 3.15pm on Tuesday 2 July.

Road closures are in place as a precaution and we ask people to avoid the area while emergency services work in the area.”

Lothian bus services 24 and 29 are affected by the road closure and are unable to serve Comely Bank Road.

Instead, they are being diverted via East Fettes Ave and Carrington Road in both directions until further notice.
