Historic unexploded bomb discovered in Edinburgh as police block street

A road in Edinburgh has been blocked after a historic bomb was discovered which failed to detonate.

Emergency services rushed to Comely Bank Road in the Stockbridge area after the alarm was raised at around 3.15pm on Tuesday.




Photos taken from the scene showed the street cordoned off by police.

Several uniformed police officers could be seen in attendance, along with a bomb squad.

The item has been removed for safe disposal by Explosives Disposal.

The road has now been reopened and there is no risk to the general public.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “All roads have now reopened following the removal of an item of historic munitions found on Comely Bank Road.

“The incident was reported at around 3.15pm on Tuesday 2 July. The item was removed for safe disposal by Explosive Ordnance Disposal and there was no risk to the general public.”
