Manchester City explore potential signings in two new positions

Manchester City recruitment chiefs are exploring the possibility of recruiting for two more positions in Pep Guardiola’s squad beyond central midfield.

Much of the talk in the first three weeks of the current summer transfer window has centred on Etihad Stadium chiefs’ intention to bolster their midfield options, particularly given concerns over Rodrigo’s workload.

The Spanish international midfielder is in constant demand for Pep Guardiola’s side and without sufficient reinforcement for the 28-year-old, his physical demands throughout the season and in pre-season have led to a drop in performance.

However, while the search for a suitable back-up continues, a new report has detailed the simultaneous search for new names in other positions in Pep Guardiola’s Premier League title-winning squad.

According to The Athletic’s Sam Lee, Manchester City are continuing to explore a move for a new right-winger to join Pep Guardiola’s squad, amid uncertainty over whether Savio will become a permanent first-team fixture.

The report also reveals that the Premier League champions could also sign a new left-back to replace Sergio Gomez, with the Spaniard expected to leave this summer and attracting interest from across Europe, but particularly Real Sociedad.

However, fans should perhaps not expect a name to necessarily challenge the fate of Josko Gvardiol or Nathan Aké, with Sam Lee explaining that Gomez’s replacement is not expected to be a ready-made option to step straight into Guardiola’s side.

However, it remains to be seen whether Manchester City will have enough time to get their new names and faces through the doors of the City Football Academy in time for the start of pre-season preparations.

Pep Guardiola and his players are expected to return around Monday, July 15, although those who competed in the European Championship and Copa America are expected to return later, and some could miss much of the upcoming pre-season tour in the US.

Following their group stage exit from the European Championship, Manchester City fans can expect Croatian duo Josko Gvardiol and Mateo Kovacic to be involved when the club travel to the United States for their four-game East Coast tour.

However, players who left later, such as Jeremy Doku and Kevin De Bruyne, could be out of action for at least another week at Manchester City as the club look to have all their national team players fully recharged for a busy season.
